ABOUT THE TREES SOLD: Century Farm Orchards grafts all of the trees sold to its customers. Grafting refers to taking a small section of a desired variety and connecting it to a rootstock with known qualities. All trees are grafted using the hardy, disease and drought resistant MM.111 rootstock. Most trees should begin bearing fruit within five years and when mature should stand around fifteen feet tall. A limited number of trees are also grafted onto dwarf rootstock, Bud-9. This rootstock makes a mature tree that will have a height of 8 to 10 feet. (Grafting season is late winter.)

TREE SELECTION: When selecting trees for an orchard or family use, consider the following: Do you want apples for eating fresh, cooking, cider, or multiple uses? Do you want apples that are sweet, tart, or a mixture of both? When do you want the apples to ripen? Some ripen as early as June, others as late as November. Do you want to be able to store apples for an extended time? If you have questions, please feel free to call or email for advice in selecting the trees that are right for you and your location.

HOW TO ORDER:

1. Trees are available for sale from November to late March each year. There will always be a good selection of apple trees available to choose from, but some varieties sell out more quickly than others. You may call or email to order at any time during the year.

2. If you are seeking a very unique variety (one without a written description in this catalog) please order by March 15th. The trees requested would then be grafted and available in November.

3. Custom Grafting: If there is a particular tree that you have and would like to have grafted, you may call to make special arrangements. Grafting wood (called scions) must be sent to us in late winter so that it may be grafted by March. Custom grafted trees are priced differently from normal nursery stock and the resulting tree may be smaller than normal due to scion quality. We request that all such orders be paid in advance. Reimbursements will be made if grafts are unsuccessful.
